I was all excited to see the dog track had shut down. The place is now abandoned… and I’m assuming scheduled for demolition to make way for more Speedway expansion… so my logical thought process said put this place in your location log and a) document the places existence and b) find the right person to photograph there. Option B materialized and a shoot with a solo artist was scheduled. I had it all planned out… got there early… scoped out and framed out some shots, took some exposure reads. But before my subject arrived, a security guard asked me to leave.
At this point, I’m totally out of a plan B and my creativity juices stopped flowing. I had no clue how I was going to up this location, and I didn’t. The artist is Mat Musto… cool dude. Mat was gonna be leaving for St. Pete for a 3 week recording session right after we were done with the shoot so I didn’t have much time to find an alternate location in an area I was basically unfamiliar with… Long story short, I’m not confident either of us are gonna be happy with what I was able to get, but I do have a call into a friend who knows who might be able to help me with access to the old Dog Track.
The first image is the new location… last two are from some of my pre-boot Dog Track explorations.
